Essential Service Provider - Heating

Tuesday 8 September (Covid Level 2 / 2.5)

Hi everyone

Broadys is committed to adopting the latest Ministry of Health recommendations for the safety of our staff, customers, suppliers and all of our families. This will include safe distancing, reduced contact where possible and elevated hygiene practises.

Here is a summary of how Broadys can help:

  • You can purchase wood and gas fires, electric heaters plus a full range of spare parts by viewing on line and calling us, or coming into store in our showroom in East Tamaki, Auckland.
  • Call us on Ph 09 2740658 to discuss or email your plans and photos so we can start answering questions and preparing quotes
  • The council Building Consents are being processed faster than ever before
  • We will be able to make visits to your home in order to do site visits and measure assessments in a safe and contactless manner
  • Fixed price supply and install quotes will continue to be provided and the NZHHA installers can put in your fire

We anticipate there will be high demand for wood and gas fire heaters so the earlier we can start assessing your requirements the sooner you can be enjoying a cosy heater to keep your home warm this winter.

Broadys stocks the leading brands of wood and gas fires and can arrange either a supply only solution or project manage a complete supply, installation and council Building Consent application.

New and Replacement Fires

A great start in assessing the right fireplace for your needs is for you to send in one or more of the following:

  • any plans of your new build or renovation projects
  • photos of your current existing fireplace or open brick fire that you may wish to upgrade
  • a plan or hand drawn sketch of your home floor plan
  • a photo from outside your home looking at the roof where the flue pipes will exit.

Tips for home owners with current working fireplaces

  • You should have now got your firewood under cover. This time spent at home is a good opportunity if you have not already. A good place to store firewood, if you dont have a dedicated wood shed, is along the side of the house that is mostly away from the weather and under an eave. Here in NZ that would be the Northern or Eastern side of the house.
  • Firewood only needs a little protection over the top to keep the rain off and do not cover completely with a tarp. It still needs lots of air movement and ventilation to keep it drying out and for seasoning.
  • Cleaning the flue. Please note if you are not confident removing internal parts like baffles and air tubes then leave them be.  If you have not managed to have the flue swept here are some tips. Before removing any internal parts have a good look at how they are installed (maybe take a photo first). Remove the firebricks and internal baffle plate to expose the flue pipe. If you have flue brushes you can clean the flue from inside the house rather than getting on the roof if you are not able to. Be careful not to knock off the cowl hat at the top of the flue system.
  • You can clean the glass by using moistened newspaper or a paper towell dabbed into the ash and then rub off the black gunk on the inside of the door glass. Wipe clean with fresh newspaper or towell.
